No Average Groove

Glastonbury Micro Venue

A bold and brand new micro venue comes to Glastonbury Festival 2019. ‘No Average Groove’ is composed of a DJ booth embodied inside the mouth of a surreal, tropical creature. There is nothing ‘average’ about this venue, which promises to bring the hottest sounds from up and coming underground DJ’s.

The production of this set involved several days (and long nights) of jigsawing, sanding, painting, planning, and constructing. The finished product becoming a whirlwind of bright, funky fruit references combined with our creepy face: crying tears in the form of cartoon leaves. This tropical twist of a venue is going nowhere – with plans to get bigger, bolder, and more bizarre as the years at Glastonbury festival continue.

As darkness fell on the festival; a whole new light was cast on the venue.

Vivid bright flood lights pointed at the stage would seamlessly fade through the colour chart, making the venue appeared to continuously change in shades & tones.

The different levels within the plywood structure meant that at night powerful shadows were cast from the shapes in the foreground. This created a beautiful, and almost ominous sense of depth which I had not expected.

Moving over to the realm of staging was a real pleasure. There’s something so rewarding about creating an installation that holds so much context and purpose. It makes your art tangible.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible!
