Our previous work and installations
The Installation was requested by the University of Bristol, with the only brief being to create an installation made from recycled materials, and to be formed in the shape of an Archway for the students to walkthrough.
I acquired rolls of coloured acetate film from a recycled scrap warehouse project. These sheets were then cut into hundreds of circles, formed into cones of different colours and sizes, and strung up onto colourful yarn.
The Installation was rigged inside the Wills Memorial Building – A Bristol landmark which is considered to be one of the last great gothic buildings to be made in the UK. It’s huge ceilings and impressive internal stone architecture complimented the bold & sophisticated style of the Installation.
The Stained Glass window in the building was a brilliant accessory for the installation, the transparent beautiful colours of the glass drew close similarities to the style of the coloured cones. This gave room for the installation to merge with the context in which it sits in – creating a much more coherent piece.
The idea was inspired by a previous cone installation which was displayed in early 20th century police cells. I wanted to develop this installation by experimenting with different cone materials, I used transparent colours, rather than white and expanded the size of the installation drastically.
