The three things you need to chase your dreams: 1. Passion 2. The audacity to start 3. Blind faith Sometimes I look back and thank that VERY inexperienced girl who decided to quit her job to chase a dream, with no idea what would happen next. Now I’m older and more cautious, I’m not sure whether I’d still have the courage to make that bold move today… and it’s remarkable to think that blind faith, or some could say naivety, has got me to where I am today. I’m so grateful that naive mini me had the audacity to start this business, and thinking back on the person I used to be has taught me a lot of lessons on how growing a business works *for me*. 1. Passion is the main ingredient. Decide what you love in this life, and do more of it. 2. Nothing is ever perfect, and waiting until you have exactly the right product, branding, or business plan before launching a business could hold you back. 3. It’s impossible to know what will work so the best way you can figure this out is by trial and error. Just put yourself out there and see what happens. 4. Trust the process, the response you get to your work will dictate the direction you choose next, there’s really no point over thinking it. 5. Learn to see losses/mistakes as valuable lessons, I’ve made some very expensive bad decisions over the years. It’s helpful to realize that even the most costly mistake is a necessary expense on the road to progress. 6. Sometimes you can’t see your potential, but now I truly understand the power of baby steps. …We have all gone mad here because… Making art installations is mind numbingly repetitive… I used to make all my products myself, which i don’t think was very good for my mental health. I could get really lonely having to do late sleepless nights making the same thing over and over again for weeks on end. Now I’ve got the most gorgeous amazing woman on the planet working part time @amie.zarz and I couldn’t be more grateful to have her grafting away. She always has the biggest smile on her face no matter how boring the job is. I love you more than i can put into words and working alongside you is an honor. You make me feel like a kid again, and getting shit done whilst being playful and silly feels like the perfect storm. Sorry (but also not sorry) to everyone else at @unit8_studios that has to hear us scream and shout, but you have made running this business immeasurably more enjoyable. I absolutely love my job but people don’t always realise that creativity can actually be very monotonous. The finished outcome can bring me the most overwhelming sense of pride and joy, but before this point it can often be weeks of the doing the SAME repetitive mind bending task before reaching that gorgeous pinnacle moment where you get to look at all your hard work hanging beautifully above your head. It’s all worth it, but my god sometimes you can feel like your loosing the plot along the way. The festival that stole my heart. Little did I know when I was booked to provide stage, venue and site wide decor for @biglovefestival how much joy and happiness it would bring to my life. I had only worked on larger festival sites - so I had no idea how amazing it would feel to help bring together a small festival, especially one as special as big love. There’s truly nothing quite like grafting in a field with a bunch of Welsh lovelies… and then getting to party together; overlooking all the hard work, blood, sweat, laughs & tears that went into building something amazing together. Big love is run by a small team of absolute good eggs and I think this energy has really spilled out into the over all atmosphere of the crowd because I’ve never been to a festival with better vibes and people. Let’s not even get started on the music. And just like that - our festival season is over! After months of pre prep, late nights, long drives, ladder climbs, cable ties, packing and unpacking - we have finally come to the end of our 2023 festival art installation build(s). There’s nothing like spending time grafting in a muddy or dusty field, surrounded by gorgeous people and stunning scenery. And to top it all of, once our build is done we get to spend our time at amazing festivals - experiencing the plethora of unbelievable experiences and unmatched creativity. The work life juggling act has never been so intense, but I will forever look forward to the sweaty scenes of UK festivals. Until next season.

I love running a business, but... At the moment I’m inundated with tiny little admin based jobs and I can’t lie, I’m craving to get creative again. Building a business is so rewarding but it’s important to never underestimate how many little arduous jobs there can be behind the scenes or glossy the Instagram posts. I've been holding onto this project for far too long... I'm so pleased to finally release some of the images from my project with @rewardgateway, in which I supplied them with some bold, big and brilliant decorations for their virtual Thankyou Festival. I can't tell you how good it feels to see your own art installations displayed in a setting like this. Its that awe inspiring feeling when you finally see the fruits of your labour come together in an instant. It makes all the relentless and isolating hours in the studio entirely worth it. As we all know - It's been a really tough year for everyone within the events industry. At times it has been hard for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and the lack of work has been demolizing and demotivating at times. So, receiving the opportunity to work with the amazing team at @rewardgateway was such a breath of fresh air. It's been amazing to be part of such an impressive covid safe operation. Although I couldn't be there to see it in person, virtually watching the bands play made me feel one step closer to the life I so badly miss. It really has felt like the beginning of better days. This is a scary thought... By the time valentine's Day comes back around, it will be an entire year since my last big job with my event decoration and art installation business. Servicing you some icy integelactic cheer this Christmas day, with the first release of my new project. 🌈 A close up of the first fringe wall I ever made 🌈 This one was fun because it was made from recycled materials; sourced from the love of my life - @scrapstorebrist. The shop is currently closed due to lockdown, but they have an online store so please buy some crafts and presents this year - Its a tough time, and they are an amazing organisation that defiantly deserve some love and support. I genuinely do not know where my business would be without the access to their recycled scrap. Using such a varied amount of materials allowed me to create an authentic backdrop with a beautiful range of textures, colours and depth. I have been holding off from posting this because I think it might be the installation I'm most proud of creating. This installation was inspired by a previous project of mine - Where I used the same cone shaped concept but with an entirely different material, and on a much smaller scale. Swipe to see the original piece. This new piece was considerably larger, and I knew that the new materials would create an totally different aesthetic. I was quite scared to see the outcome since it's something I had never seen it done before, but I was super proud in the end. Switching up this concept made me realise the benefit of 'development', a word which was thrown around a lot in my foundation art diploma. I always hated being forced into developing my concepts on my course - since it felt like something unauthentic that I had to do to simply 'tick a box', and get my grades. Now that Im creating in the real world, I realise that development is definitely important, but it's a slow and natural process that happens as you find yourself, and your creative niche. Devlopment can't be forced and rushed just because someone tells you to do so in order to get your grades... So shove that up your bum - foundation art! ... ⚪Throwback to a special one ⚪ This piece was a bespoke commission created to fill the window of a cafe. This installation consists of 150 hanging transparent perspex discs, hung in a variety of colours and sizes. Each disc turns at its own pace, creating an infinite amount of reflections, shapes and layers. I tried doing full face makeup for the first time and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. This was my take on a Halloween clown / drag aesthetic. Usually - I like to transform spaces with big art, but yesterday I discovered that I find just as much joy in transforming faces with paint. It was so nice to use my creativity in a different way, and I can't wait to experiment with this by making more fine tuned and time consuming looks, maybe ones that even fit with my decor. I'm especially excited to start experimenting with theatrical drag looks. This being something that I don't think i got exactly right with this one, it's harder than I thought. 😮 Confession Time! 😮 ⁣ My name is Ella Schofield Lake and I’m the mother/founder of Jumbo Production. Today I will be posting something very old, and something brand new. This morning I found this piece that i created about 7 years ago - and it takes me back to creativity as a teen when I was constantly experimenting. Something that I really fell in love with was yarn painting. It took hours of cutting and glueing down strands of wool, one at a time... it sounds tedious but I’ve always found something quite satisfying about monotonous projects. This piece was a bespoke commission created to fill the window of a cafe. This installation consists of 150 hanging transparent perspex discs, hung in a variety of colours and sizes. Each disc turns at its own pace, creating an infinite amount of reflections, shapes and layers.
